Marriage
Five habits that protect affection after the nikah

Small, consistent choices that nurture warmth and respect.
Marriage is not sustained by one grand gesture, but by repeated moments of gentleness, attention, and repair. The Prophet (peace be upon him) modeled small acts of affection consistently, and modern research on lasting relationships echoes the same principle: it is the little, daily choices that guard the heart of a marriage.
1. Greet each other with presence
Put down the phone. Make eye contact. The first minute of reunion after a day apart sets the emotional temperature of the whole evening.
2. Express gratitude out loud
Assuming your spouse knows you appreciate them is not the same as telling them. Verbal gratitude, even for small things, compounds over years.
3. Repair quickly after friction
Disagreements are inevitable. What distinguishes strong marriages is the speed and sincerity of repair — a soft word, an apology without conditions, a hand extended first.
4. Protect a daily moment of connection
Tea after Isha, a short walk, five minutes of conversation without logistics. Guard one small ritual that belongs only to the two of you.
5. Make dua for one another
Asking Allah for your spouse's wellbeing softens your own heart toward them, and joins your worldly bond to something eternal.
