Divorce Support

After divorce: dignity, healing, and what comes next

Divorce is permitted, not shameful. Guidance on the waiting period, co-parenting, and rebuilding without bitterness.

If your marriage has ended, you have not failed at your religion. Divorce exists within Islamic law precisely because some marriages should end.

Give the process its due

The waiting period (‘iddah) is not empty time. It exists to protect rights, allow for reconciliation where that is possible, and give both people space before decisions harden.

Children are not messengers

Whatever passed between the adults, a child’s right to both parents remains. Do not use them to carry complaints.

Rebuilding

  • Keep the obligatory acts steady even when your heart is not in them.
  • Accept help. Isolation lengthens grief.
  • Do not narrate your former spouse’s faults publicly.

MFA never encourages divorce and never shames the divorced. Where reconciliation is sound and safe, we encourage sincere effort. Where it is not, we offer hope and practical guidance.

A note on sources. Everything above is drawn from the Qur'an, authentic Sunnah, and recognised Sunni scholarship. Where scholars differ, we say so. If you spot an error in a citation, please tell us and we will correct it.
